Primary Bedroom Remodel | Winter Park, FL

This primary bedroom remodel in Winter Park was part of a larger scope of work at a private Chestnut Avenue residence where four separate projects were completed under one roof. The bedroom was its own chapter entirely, built around two ideas that ended up being inseparable: a full burgundy color drench and a custom white oak wall installation behind the bed.

The color work here is not a standard paint job. Every surface in the room, the walls, ceiling, trim, and doors, was finished in the same deep burgundy using a limewash antiquing technique applied in two complementary tones layered by hand. Painting everything the same color rather than keeping the trim and ceiling contrasting was a deliberate choice that lets the finish fill the entire volume of the room. The limewash builds texture and movement into the surface that a flat or satin finish cannot replicate, and the color shifts noticeably depending on the light, which keeps the room feeling dynamic rather than flat.

The custom white oak wall was designed, built, and installed in house. All electrical was run through the interior framework of the piece before the panels went on, so the finished surface is completely clean with no exposed hardware. The oak was hand stained to coordinate with the custom furniture brought into the room, and a continuous LED strip along the top edge casts warm light upward against the burgundy ceiling. It is the kind of detail that turns a bedroom into something that actually feels designed.

The furnishings were chosen to work with the richness of the finish rather than fight it. A low boucle platform bed sits against the oak wall flanked by matching nightstands, and a large capiz shell chandelier overhead adds organic texture without competing with the color. A velvet lounge chair, veined marble side table, and a brass column lamp complete the sitting area on the opposite end of the room, carrying the same warmth and layering throughout.

The room previously had near-black walls and a white ceiling, a combination that read as sharp and cool. The burgundy limewash drench replaced that contrast with something continuous and immersive, and the custom oak wall gave the room a focal point and architectural presence it did not have before. The before and after here is one of the more dramatic in this portfolio, and it happened entirely through finish work and custom millwork with no structural changes to the room.
