Wine Cellar, delaney park
This wine cellar started with a piece of furniture. The owner sourced a large antique hutch from an antique store and had it shipped in, and the whole room was built around it. We took the hutch's measurements and built everything else to fit, not the other way around.
The space did not start as anything special. It was a bare room in a Delaney Park home with a stained ceiling, a concrete slab, and a band of exposed block under the windows. We framed everything out, replaced the insulation and the drywall, and took it back to a clean shell.
From there it went to stone. We laid stone on the floor with a matching stone baseboard, set the walls in stone, and built a pointed stone arch around the wine cooler. The pointed arch is the detail that sets the tone for the whole room.
The lighting is where the period look comes from. Recessed cans handle the everyday light, and the character comes from wrought iron torch sconces mounted over heraldic shields and a forged iron ring chandelier overhead.
The room sits partially below grade. The garage is on the same level and the driveway drops down toward it, which is what gives the space its tucked-in feel. One window sits right at the pool's waterline, with the water only a few inches below the glass.
The hutch, the gothic chairs, the paintings, and the tasting table are the owner's. The structure, the stone, the arch, the floor, and the lighting are ours, built to look centuries old.
That is the work. Bring us a picture or a vision and we build it.
